We all agree on the necessity of compromise.
We just can't agree on when it's necessary to compromise.

Pimp My Class: Pimp My Archer

Pimp My Archer Part-1 of 5 “The Setup / Feats & Skills”

Hmm this write up was originally written in word and moved over. The web site’s text space is pretty little so everything is squished in.

The long awaited third write up in the popular Pimp My Class series.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a PMC write up. So rather than jump into a spell caster, I will do something a little simpler, one of my favorite archetypes, The Archer. Because this little monster has grown out of proportion from when I started I’m going to break it up into parts.

Part-1 “The Setup / Feats & Skills”

Part-2 “The Bowmen”

Part-3 “The Sniper”

Part-4 “The Skirmisher”

Part-5 “The Hybrid”

The Archer in D&D has gotten a lot of love in general from Wizards of The Coast. Making a good archer is pretty easy. You don’t have to really go beyond the player’s handbook to make a good archer. (But you know we will) For this write up we will be using the following books.

Fighting Styles in Dungeons & Dragons: Part 3

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007 by Damionte

Part III of my series on D&D fighting styles takes a look at Two Weapon Fighting:

This style is all about going Ginzu on your opponent. Overcoming their defense with a barrage of extra attacks. Confronting your opponent with a weapon in both hands.

Two Weapon Fighting is probably the most feat intensive style in D&D. There are 13 Feats that flesh out this style. Plus others based on the weapons you choose to use.

To Chaos or Not to Chaos - Khorne; up close and personal.

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 by Tryke

There is a common misconception in the Warhammer community by the non-chaos types that anyone who chooses to take up the mantle of a skull wearing chaos cheeba monkey is a power gamer to the nth degree. I should know, I’ve been one of those for most of my Warhammer life. I admit it, I’m an anti-chaosite; or is that anti-chaotic? Anyway, if you find me at a Warhammer tournament, following another brutal smackdown by the Chaotic Ones, you’re not likely to find me in a charitable mood about our friends to the North. Today though, I really want to step back and look at each of the Chaos Gods starting with Khorne. Over the next couple of articles we’ll examine the army types, play styles, and miniature ranges in an effort to better understand the plague, oops sorry, the attraction that chaos holds. At the end of it all I may still be inclined to link a certain “F” word with Chaos; but at least I’ll know why. So sit back, find yourself a skull to wear, and lets trek up North to the Chaos Wastes.

Roleplaying And Its Place In MMPORGs

Monday, March 12th, 2007 by Poor Knight

Roleplayers seem to give off an awkward odor. Perhaps it comes from the lack of hygiene that many exhibit or perhaps it really is their unusual nature. Many go to great lengths to subdue this “tell” to the point of masquerading as a normal person when deep down inside they can’t wait until their next gaming fix. You gamers know what I mean - even if you try and deny it here.

But in MMPORGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games) shouldn’t RPers be in their natural element? Isn’t this the domain of the Roleplayer? Well, maybe not. This article seems to indicate that RPers are still the smelly awkward kids of the online games:

Real Men Don’t Play Gurps

Sunday, March 11th, 2007 by Poor Knight

Back in the good old days — the “Golden Era” of roleplaying — it was easy to separate the men from the boys (sometimes called “Real Men” and “Quiche Eaters” in the literature). During this period, the Real Men were the ones who played Dungeons and Dragons, and the Quiche Eaters were the ones who didn’t.

A Real Man said things like “save vs death or die” and “THAC0″ (they actually pronounced the zero in THAC0, you understand), and the rest of the world said things like “Dungeons and Dragons — isn’t that Satanic?” and “dragons don’t exist”. Real Men brush off such trivial issues, and have never had problems killing things that don’t exist. But, as usual, times change. Dungeons and Dragons is no longer the only force in roleplaying. We are faced today with a world in which vampires can be player characters instead of monsters, and rules exist for creating microwave ovens and toasters that are more detailed than those for creating humans. There is a clear need to point out the differences between the typical pasty-faced goth poseur or aspiring gearhead, and a Real Man. If this difference is made clear, it will give these people something to aspire to — a role model, a father figure. It will also help explain why, despite 25 years of progress in roleplaying games, the Real Man continues to be the force that he is today.
