Fighting Styles Part II TWO HANDED WEAPONS THW for short.

For the second installment of my fighting styles article I’m going to look at Two Handed Weapons. The key to the THW style is doing as much damage per strike as possible. The bread and butter to this style being the Power Attack feat and big weapons.

CHARACTERISTICS:
#1 Primary characteristic for this style is strength. Every bonus point you get from strength is one more point of attack power and two more points of damage when you’re using Power Attack. Pump your strength up as much a possible. No other stats really matter. Except maybe CON. You’re very well suited for beating up on large monsters. Large monsters hit hard so having more HP’s is always great.

Ability Score Generation Methods for Characters

There’s lots of ways to roll up your characters - including not rolling at all. Rolling up characters has changed over the years as the game itself has changed and the values being generated changed in their significance.

With the advent of 3E the focus has definitely shifted away from actual ability scores. It’s not the score that matters so much as the adjustment derived from it. The next full revision of D&D may even drop ability scores as unnecessary. In any case, there is less difference now between a score of 16 and 17 than there used to be since they both give a bonus of +3. Previous versions were suffering from stat inflation. That is, in order to get bonuses out of stats at ALL your scores had to be quite high - generally 15 or better. In those earlier versions it became the be-all/end-all to come up with a method of character generation that gave more high scores so that you wouldn’t wind up with lots of characters with scores between 8 and 14 who would be functionally identical. In 3E any score above 11 will get you a bonus instead of needing scores of at least 15, and of course the lower end of the scale has been brought upward so that less than 10 is a penalty.

Roleplaying in Faerun 1

Welcome to my mind. I suggest you avoid door number 2, its kind of messy in there, and move right on to the large room down the hall. Over the next couple of months I will to present to you some helpful hints for role playing the various races that inhabit the Forgotten Realms. Nothing set in stone, just some guidelines I like to follow when I’m attempting to get in character for an evening of sword and sorcery in exotic Faerun. So without further ado, here’s article #1, sun elves and those around them.

Here’s my first attempt at getting a topic of discussion going. I have been looking at fighters again lately. Discussions I had with Matt made me really look at different fighting styles in D&D. I’ve been breaking them down and would like to share my thoughts on them. First of all I’d like to break the styles into the following 5 categories.

1: Stick & Move
2: Duel Wielding
3: 2-Handed Weapons
4: Sword & Shield
5: Reach Weapons
